Be still and know that He is God

Be still and know that He is God

He knows our frame

He knows we're dust

His lovingkindness is everlasting

To those who know Him

Bless the Lord, my soul!

How often to we need to hear the message “Be still and know that I am God”? (Ps 46:10) I know that I am always fretting over this and over that – especially where matters of ministry are concerned. The rest of the song is cherry-picked from Psalm 103.

I take the majority of my lyrics straight from Scripture, but I like pulling from here and there, finding verses with similar themes and tying them together, rather than simply taking one long passage and putting it to music – not that that doesn’t have it’s place as well.

This piece is remarkably simple melodically and lyrically, but fairly complex harmonically. The movement from the Am to the Ab major at the top of the phrase was difficult to resolve. But, once at the Ab, I couldn’t go anywhere else.
