Bio
Robert
Weber, Worship Leader and Songwriter

I’ve been playing piano since I was six. That’s over 30 years now
(frightening). I gave up lessons in high school and picked them up for a year
or two in college. It was my second year, when I was at Southern Illinois
University in Carbondale, IL, when my life changed.
Musically, I learned how to play improvisationally
– from only a lead sheet. I was inspired by the music leader at my church. I
fancied myself a Christian at that time. That was the other, and more
important, life change that year. I went from fancy to real Christianity. At
the time I belonged to an old, mainline denomination, and assumed that this new
intensity of spirituality in my life meant I was to enter the ministry. Without
naming the denomination, it is one that forbids its full-time ministers to
marry.
After a year in seminary, I realized that God moving in your life
doesn’t mean that He’s placed a specific calling on your life – yet. Shortly
after I met my wife, and my dear Grandmother introduced me to the Baptism of
the Holy Spirit (Acts 19:1-6). It wasn’t until moving to Peoria that I began
writing music.
We are now planted firmly in a Pentecostal Church, where my wife
and I are both involved in worship ministry – me as a worship team leader and
pianist, my wife as a dancer. As you can see from the photo, we have three
beautiful children. In order: my lion, my otter, and my apple. The picture is
from Christmas 05.
The most recent developments in ministry for me is
a calling to outreach ministry. I feel a draw to reach out to smaller churches
and encourage them in worship. It doesn’t take huge orchestras like on the
Integrity or Hillsongs recordings – it certainly
doesn’t require wailing electric guitars for worship. All it takes is people
with a desire to connect to the Divine, and a little help in the right
direction.
