Songwriting

One day, back in late 2003, I received a phone call out of the blue. A gentleman had visited our church for a wedding and noted the contemporary music. He thought that this might be the place to find someone he was looking for. Calling the church secretary the next week, she referred him to me. It turns out he had written some song lyrics for his daughter’s upcoming wedding, and was looking for someone to set them to music.

We performed that song, “The Next Step,” together the next summer at that wedding. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house – especially his daughter. Since then, I’ve put to music a poem written by a woman dying of cancer to say goodbye, and collaborated with a dear lady in my church to set music to lyrics that made me think of a hymn. That song became “By His Stripes,” as was included on my first live worship CD.

I will be setting up links to some of these songs as I am able to make recordings of them. Until then, you can listen to “By His Stripes” here, and if you would like to work together turning your lyrics into music, please drop me a line.
