I’ve been writing praise
music since 1998. Why don’t I say “Praise and Worship” music? I guess it’s
something of a reaction to all of the (excellent) preaching recently about
how worship is so much more than music – it’s a way of life. Believe me, I
couldn’t agree with that more. That being said, what we do
as a congregation (even a congregation of one or two) when we come together
is vitally important. Michael Coleman, the president of Integrity Media
places a statement on all the CDs that his company produces: “There is one thing we do on
earth that we will continue to do in heaven – that is to praise and worship
God.” (click here for the full statement). A missionary visiting our
church during a missions convention put a question to
the congregation: “What is the most important function of the church?” Being
missions week and with a missionary speaking, everybody shouted back to him
en masse “Missions!” “No!” he responded. |

To our stunned silence he
explained himself. The most important function of the church is to worship
God. “Think about it,” he said, “missions only exists where worship DOESN’T.” This one statement
revolutionized the way I think about congregational music. Since then I have
been trying to write songs that groups of people can sing together to worship
their Creator and Savior. You are free to use them in any non-commercial
application you can think of. If you are a member of CCLI please
report the usage, but I do not make that a prerequisite for use. If you would
like to make a commercial recording of any of these songs, please contact me and I’m sure we can work
something out. But, most important, go out and WORSHIP
God with your whole life! |
